Command the Heavy-Duty DSP Fleet
Fulfilling the global customer promise across millions of households requires a highly diversified delivery fleet. While standard cargo vans handle typical suburban routes, our Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) require a much more robust solution for dense urban centers and heavy commercial business districts. Enter the Step Van. This division is the heavy-duty infantry of the DSP network. We are actively seeking elite, highly experienced delivery professionals to step up to the plate. If you have mastered the standard delivery van and are ready to pilot a massive commercial walk-in truck, earning higher yearly pay and commanding superior respect on the road, the Step Van DSP Driver position is the ultimate evolution of your driving career within Amazon's massive logistics framework.
About the Role: Upgrading to the Big Leagues
As a Step Van Driver, you will operate a massive, commercial-grade walk-in truck. These vehicles are significantly larger, wider, and heavier than standard transit vans, capable of holding up to double the package volume. Because you are operating a federally regulated commercial motor vehicle, this role requires specialized Department of Transportation (DOT) certification, making you an elite, highly credentialed member of the local DSP fleet.
A Day in the Life of a Step Van Operator
Your day begins at the delivery station with a heightened level of responsibility. Your pre-trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) is intense and highly scrutinized by DOT standards. You check the air brakes, the heavy-duty suspension, and the massive rear roll-up door. You pull your Step Van into the loading matrix, loading upwards of 350 packages utilizing the massive, walk-in cargo area to build a highly organized, sequential mobile warehouse on the heavy-duty shelving. You hit the road, standing tall above regular traffic. Your stops are high-volume, frequently requiring you to utilize heavy-duty hand trucks to move massive, multi-package bulk orders from your truck to commercial receiving docks or mega-apartment mailrooms.
Comprehensive Duties & Responsibilities
- Advanced Commercial Operation: Safely pilot a massive commercial Step Van through incredibly tight environments. Master wide-turning radiuses and understand commercial vehicle clearance heights to avoid roof-strikes.
- High-Volume Freight Management: Utilize advanced spatial organization to sequence hundreds of packages on the interior shelving of the walk-in cargo bay, ensuring rapid retrieval at high-density stops.
- DOT Regulatory Compliance: Strictly adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintain flawless electronic hours-of-service (HOS) logs, and carry your valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate at all times.
- Commercial Bulk Delivery: Execute complex deliveries to major corporate businesses, retail stores, and massive mailrooms using heavy-duty material handling equipment.
Industry-Leading Total Rewards
Step Van drivers are the elite tier of the local DSP network, commanding premium rewards:
- Premium Yearly Compensation: Earn a significantly higher yearly salary compared to standard van drivers, reflecting the advanced commercial driving skills, DOT certification, and increased workload.
- Fully Paid DOT Certification: Your DSP completely covers the cost of your commercial driving instruction, road tests, and your required DOT physical medical examination.
- Comprehensive Healthcare & PTO: Access robust medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage packages, and accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) from day one.
